Rumour: All You Can Eat closes their doors

Here’s an unconfirmed rumour (admittedly started by me confirmed by the message boards at mybroadband.co.za): the South African ISP All You Can Eat are shutting down. Their allyoucaneat.co.za website no longer works even though it’s still registered with co.za. They’ve not answered support calls (try +27 21 465 7979) or emails for months and no-one I know can get a response from them.

I posted an open letter to them recently and quite a few people commented, saying they’re unable to get hold of them. 2 people say their ADSL usernames and passwords are not working!

I’ve emailed the ISPC (Internet Service Provider Check) to ask them to look into this, so take this as unconfirmed, but I’m pretty sure All You Can Eat is shutting down.

Which is a pity: in a country of expensive bandwidth, they were the first ISP to come to the party and offer large ADSL packages to end users. The only way they could possible be closing down is because of bad management – which is pure speculation but they surely have to have a user base large enough to sustain their business.

[Update: someone actually drove to their office and found it padlocked. Take this rumour as confirmed, then!]

[Update: SAOL.com will honour all allyoucaneat accounts: from : "SAOL.Com will honour all Dotco contracts when signing up with SAOL. Any gigs still owing by Dotco will be honoured for FREE by SAOL."]
