@Tessa: nope. Core's de facto policy is to not respond to anyone online. I don't know how they manage to get away with it.

Hi Roger

Did Core come back to you, and if so, what was the response?

[...] Apple and Canon products aren’t the only ones affected, but are the ones I’ve had the most frustration with.
@Minnaar Pieters: I'm going to give it another week, and then start attempting to contact Apple in Europe and the States.

@Tessa Verwey: your experience with Core is shocking: this would never happen with Apple in the States. Unfortunately, I cannot help you - but I'm sure a consumer helpline that newspapers (like The Star) have can help. They can put pressure on a company because of the huge public profile that newspapers have - the first step is to get the phone number for The Star's department that handles these queries, and speak to a journalist who is prepared to follow this query up. Please let us know what happenes.

@Minnaar: you're most welcome to publish this on stopcore.co.za :)

On the 27th of January 2009 I handed my sons 80 gig classic ipod (UPC -885909168651) serial no - 8k805k44ysn ( to the Apple Store in Sandton

It says on the purchase slip warranty is through to 22 May 2009.

My son and a friend who also purchased an ipod in America (Apple Store, mission Viejo) asked the store about the warranty and they were told not a problem Apple honours the warranty throughout the world which is if they can not fix it they will replace it with a new unit.

The Apple Store made a copy of the purchase slip and gave me a copy of the job sheet. After two months I called and asked what waas going on they told me it takes time and they will contact me when it was back from the workshop. In the middle of April I eventually went in and was told there was no warranty for the unit I said there was showed them and they said they would call me . A week later still no call so I called I spoke to Ashley and she said I now need to fax a copy of the warranty through and she would call me the next day I called her she said the unit had been lost and would call me. Needless to say no call I left 2 messages for Ashley. I then went to the store on a Saturday morning and asked for the Manages they called a Coloured lady with glasses who then called the tech, Manager and they said please to be patient they promised they would get back to me on Monday. On the Wednesday I went in again now I was passed on to Sheperd Manager no 3 who I had to repeat the whole thing and was promised Again that he would come back to me. Now It is a week later I am livid My Husband calls and speaks to Olga who tells him they will give us a replacementto come in on the Monday.I go back on the Thursday so that they have enough time and there wont be any excuses. I end up waiting for three quarters of an hour when Olga arrives she gives me an old scratched ipod I ask her what is this and she says my replaxcement for the one they lost. Werll I just lost it then all of a sudden we have Manager no 4 Jason who tells me not to be irate he does not know the story so another explanation and confirmation that my sons ipod was missing and this is the normal Apple policy they give me a replacement IF they have one at that time and it is someone else's old one I was horrified. I told him I will not accept this as they have lost my ipod. He then tells me he will get back to me it is now 8th June 2009 still nothing

PLEASE HELP Is this the truth as far as the warranty goes

Regards
Tessa Verwey

Hi Roger - might want to look at this as well:

http://www.mpieters.com/2009/05/just-how-expensive-is-apple-in-sa.html

Just how expensive is Apple in SA?

I am glad someone is sending the letters to Core. Maybe write an open letter to Apple or Apple Europe? There is enough people who will join a petition of some kind.
